"what's up brotha?" That is the language that you will have to deal with when ordering a sandwich. The food is good. It is laid out like an old time country store. They don't have a huge selection but for me the simplicity of the place is refreshing. I would like it more if it was not so trendy and I did not have to be so buddy-buddy with everyone. Hell i guess it is better than some other places but bay cities deli is better.
Note: I was also told that " 2 +2 is one because all there is one" Ummm...It is a lot different here in venice versus santa monica. People are nicer I guess not sure yet.

They give me $1 coffee every morning because Im working at the neiboring store.
I tried their deli the other day, it was fabulous.
Pastrami sandwich with sauerkraut on rye bread, chicken and avocado salad with lime and coriander... I was wrong, it's not humble at all, it's elabolate.
I love you, Stroh.

Hellooooo breakfast burritos. These are really my favorite in Los Angeles. Or, were...
Since I became a hippy vegan, eating a Stroh's egg (just the right amount!) and soyrizo (how cool that this is an option!) burrito (pressed in a grill or panini contraption so they are perfectly crispy on the outside!) with a bottle of hot sauce nearby (whether sitting on the curb or at one of the few tables) is probably the #1 thing I crave.
When I'd pick visiting friends up from LAX in the morning, I would always take them here and they would - without fail - fall in love with it.
Oh, Stroh's, what can I do to talk you into a vegan burrito? I'll be there every weekend if you can make it happen... and not just for your delicious coffee.
Nothing great once again just a lil sandwich joint,
without seasoning...and taste...
I found nothing special here. They have ok but expensive pre-made panini's and few mixed salads. But that's about it.

It was a Sunday morning with near 100 degree heat. Where else to go but to the beach!
Driving out from the valley, we easily found street parking on Abbot Kinney around 11:30am and headed into Stroh's.
I ordered the Early Riser (fried eggs, cheese, bacon sandwich on a croissant) with avocado. It hit the spot, though next time I'd go I'd like to try a lunch item. All of their sandwiches looked very delicious and healthy.
My gf and I walked to the beach (about 8 min away) and enjoyed our sandwiches there. It was a great way to start what would become a very relaxing day... I would definitely love to repeat the experience!

It's great. A little slow. Better breakfast than lunch, but both are very good. I'd rank the place higher than three stars; however, the prices make the sanwiches a little painful to swallow. I mean. It's a two slices of bread and a little meat for nine dollars?

They have great grilled sandwiches and cookies. They only down side is the lack of seating.
I highly recommend this place for lunch.

Don't bother going after the lunch rush because they'll have nothing else! The panini are good, healthy, and overpriced. But that's just Abbot Kinney for you.
I had to downgrade them a star because they stopped making truffle fries. =( They should really ask before they take something off the menu!

Tasty, intelligent, simple sandwiches. I had the turkey/avocado/melted brie on multigrain and I was extremely happy. Sandwiches are not made to order (reminded me of a European sandwich stand), so I don't think they do substitutions. Coffee and service is mediocre. No dine-in accommodations (there are a few outdoor tables on Abbot Kinney), but I would recommend eating on the boardwalk for maximum afternoon snacking enjoyment.

nice place, good food. and jasons chill.
A good neighborhood place for a light European-style sandwich. The filled croissants are disappointingly tough. The staff can be spacey.

We popped in for a quick coffee to start our Friday of no work!
Girlfren and I got two small coffees and a baguette to share outside at the sidewalk table. I was dipping my bread into my coffee when Mr. Stroh asked if we would like a piece of cheese with our bread. Okay!
He sliced a lovely piece of Humboldt Fog for us and told us it was on the house! He couldn't bear to see me eat my bread dipped in coffee. What a sweet guy.
I love pity cheese.
The sandwiches look amazing. I saw them make them that morning and the salads look so flavorful.

Finally tried it. Had a fried chicken sandwich and some exotic sounding potato chips. Eureka! I'm hooked. I have an excuse to eat fried chicken again. My spouse was happy as was our little grom who snatched many crumbs.
It's like trying to choose the right puppy in the window except this puppy you eat...'cause it be a yummy sandwich, yo'!
This summer Stroh's has been my Sunday morning food stop. I actually get up a little earlier than normal...(noon)...just to head over and grab a lunch for breakfast. From the selection of cold teas, juices, salads and yes...the glass case filled with simple, classic, fresh and somewhat inventive oh-so-good sandwiches, something surely will hit your taste bud spots. If you can't find something here, there's a restaurant at the end of the Santa Monica pier. Walk past it and keep walking.
Also, not showcased, they do make breakfast sammys.

I love Stroh's. They have great sandwiches and sides. I really like the beef and tomato dish and the chicken with avocado dish. They also have great breakfast sandwiches that are huge (and good for sharing).

breakfasts here are the way to go. the coffee isn't for me though, but the chorizo burrito is. not sure that they have a menu at all, but it is worth noting that you can get a mini version of the menu. that's one of the 2 best things on the menu. the other, and again, if there were a menu, i'm not sure it would be on it but a waiter recommended it to me, so the guys who work there should know what's up, that's a breakfast sandwich on the pretzel bread/bagel, each waiter seems to call it something diff, with egg, cheese and a healthy dose of bacon. i recommend adding their hot sauce.
my main gripe is no bathroom. that's often my biggest gripe about many of the local spots.

The first time I went to Stroh's I expected to be disappointed bc the place looked cool and usually cool looking places have disappointing food.
I was mistaken. There is subtlety in the food. The sandwiches are constructed with thought usually reserved for Shakespearean sonnets.
The salads are great also. The simple things that matter like seasoning and fresh ingredients.
I like their cheese, especially the Sotto Cenere, which I bought a chunk of and ate in the car on the way home.
One thing I did buy that was extremely disappointing was a bottle of Red Sancerre, I had previously only had white Sancerre....it wasn't a cheap bottle, either....

Had the pastrami sandwich, which was just ok. While they did toast the sandwich, the meat and cheese in the middle of the sandwich were still quite cold. Also, didn't think the price was that great for what I got - you basically get a sandwich (no pickles, etc.), along with any other sides you want to pay for.
However, the ambiance is very quaint and unique and fits in with the rest of the area. The drink selection is good, too, with all the retro glass/bottled drinks.
Overall, though, just average... would rather have Bay Cities in Santa Monica for the price/value.

Stroh's is like the cool, local hangout spot you go to every Saturday morning. They have great sandwiches and coffee here. It's a really cute spot to stop by and grab a quick bite to eat in. I usually drop in here (or Abbot's Habit down the street) and pick up a sandwich to-go and then walk down to the beach.

Everyone who works here is a sweetheart! My latest weekend jaunt to Stroh's included an Al Green soundtrack where we were all participated in a sing-along. Love it!! All of the sandwiches are good, as are the breakfast specials. Ingredients are quality!

Did you know they have Orange Fig Jelly?! GET OUT.
Or get... the Australian Ginger Beer. It's spicy but not overpowering. Great compliment to a yummy pastrami on rye panini. If you don't know what to eat, the guys will hold your hand and the info will flow.

It's been a while since I've been, but I expect that to change soon, like tomorrow. You can get cold Coke in a glass bottle from Mexico instead of the States, and it tastes better, for some reason. I gleefully recall that all the people working the counter were hunks. Also, there was a cheese wheel present the last time I visited that could kill a man. I don't know how they negotiate moving those things. Maybe they just roll them across the floor. Get in early for best selection. Don't forget to appreciate the art deco!

Stroh's has been my kitchen for the last 3 years. Some days I would starve if they didn't exist. We order the cheese plate all the time for our clients and they LOVE it. Especially the humbolt fog and the manchego. The beets are so healthy delish and not-so-healthy but yummy is the slim jim. I am addicted to the coconuts in the cooler right now. Fastest way to cure a hangover. Oh, and how bout those peruvian cookies- heavenly!

Great quality ingredients - a caterer recommended it to me for that reason, Great easy-going staff.
Not much of a sandwich person myself, so I stopped going there as often since I've had all the deli salads and it doesn't look like they are making new dishes.
They do know their sandwiches....

I love Stroh's. It's nice and easy and it's perfect for grabbing a sandwich for the beach. I love the pretzel roll w/ ham & cheese. They sides are really good as well. They even have a relatively extensive selection of pastries from nearby bakeries. Who doesn't like yummy sandwiches and fresh baked cookies?

It's great to have a deli in the neighbourhood (I work down the road) but its just too pricy and s-l-o-w. I love the decore though and it has a great european vibe which is probably why its so expensive!

A good addition to the neighborhood. They're selection of foods is pretty limited. The cheese isnt well presented and looks unappetizing. Their sandwiches are good and inexpensive. They have a selection of cold pastas, salads etc that I haven't tried but look pretty good. The special french fries covered in gravy sound better than they are. Service is cheerful but spotty. Overall, a good place to grab lunch.

Apparently everyone thinks that this place is amazing because all of the posted reviews give it five stars. It is pretty damn good and I am going to stick with the trend and give it five stars as well.
I have been a handful of times and everything is very consistent. This is the type of place that belongs in Venice because it has a mellow vibe and a friendly staff. The fact that the food is tasty and cheap is also appealing.
They have about five sandwiches and they prepare a fair amount of them each morning. Upon ordering one they warm it up on a panini press. They have a turkey brie, roast beef, salami on a pretzel roll and a few others.
However, Stroh's is more than a sandwich spot. They have a nice selection of cheeses and bottled wine. I also like the case of pastries next to the register. I had a chocolate croissant two days ago and it was delicious.
I work in Santa Monica and go to Stroh's for a lunch break every so often, but if I lived in Venice I would definitely be a local. A great sandwich at a fair price has become anomaly but Stroh's is bringing it back. Their formula of good food and friendly people is unbeatable.
If you are taking a quick lunch break or making your way to the beach, stop by Stroh's a try a sandwich. You can thank me later.

Go here for breakfast and get the "Early Riser" on a croissant. You will not find a better breakfast sandwich in LA than the Early Riser at Stroh's. Everyone I tell is skeptical but they all wise up once they taste this delicious morsel.
Do yourself a favor, and get their before noon when they stop serving breakfast.
And do me a favor and wait till I get mine, because sometimes they run out of croissants.

I've lived in Venice for the better part of 15 years, and during that time some things have changed for me, and some have not. I used to like the beach with a good book or a scrabble game, and I still do. In my younger days I really liked smoking weed, and there was a guy named James Marks who was my go-to guy - he always hooked me up right. Now that I'm older and can remember where my car keys are, I really like a great sandwich, and Stroh's is my modern-day James Marks.
Stroh's doesn't fuck around - they make 5 or 6 different kinds of sandwiches, they put 'em in a glass case, and they're there for the taking until they're not. Get there too late - too bad. Trust me - I get get there early.
In addition, they have an amazing cheese selection, some fresh breads, a satisfying drink selection and other assorted stuff that I like, and therefore so will you. Seriously. The staff rock, and are more than happy to answer any questions, or assist you in figuring out what you REALLY want - they know better than you, so trust them.
Let's review:
A) You need sandwiches in the Venice area.
B) Go to Stroh's - EARLY - before2 for the best selection.
C) Chat up the nice people behind the counter and ask them what you should get
D) Rock the sandwich hard.
E) Repeat
PS: My personal faves are the fresh mozzarella and the ham on pretzel roll w/ cheese. I usually drink root beer or Limonada.

I was here with a friend a couple of weeks ago and they're not messing with their custom-made sandwiches. The best part, team it up with some great potato chips, and wash it down with a number of bottled sodas in the fridge (thank god they have Coke Light, which is popping up everywhere...in the Philippines and Mexico...but not the US!). Great salads, too.
Sidewalk seating or to-go orders only.

A few other things you must munch on: the beet salad, fresh o.j. and the caprese sandwich!

believe. the staff considerate and unpretentious despite being the very embodiment of bohemia, the clientele absolutely gorgeous (present company excepted) and likewise pleasant, and the sandwiches ROCK. never had a bad sandwich there, and i've had 'em all. especially like the pastrami and the roast beef. catered a party from there once for a beverly hills crowd, wowed them on a pretty reasonable budget (though those bh'ers don't eat, so maybe that's not saying much). best to eat outside, and just soak up the sun and the scene. enjoy!
